JOY was in making it to the “Lookout”… and the rain stopped ! then seeing the Rainbow behind us with Youbou in the background where “Everyone” started out in the Great Lake Walk Journey at 5:00 a.m. ….
There are Angels amongst us and everyone doing the Great Lake Walk knows -…they drive by and shout “good luck” and “you ok?” and at every rest stop shout “you’re doing great” - they follow us in vehicles !
As the day wore on … the click of my ski pole sounded louder, …listening to Susie’s soft voice telling stories of her youth was wonderful, .. we saw the big mountain ahead of us… we’re the last walker.
Over the day the “Last Walker” vehicles followed us, stopped for a while and then slowly crept up again .. We were introduced to the last vehicle driver of the day, who had a jeep – A man with a great attitude like all outdoors ! – wearing a Mexican headband and stopping often for us – helping me take my shoes off and get rid of the sand in my shoes – .. the sounds of crunching gravel from his tires at a “snail’s pace” were familiar and comfortable after a while and we knew there was an Angel in our midst all these many miles…
Just as the dusk started to drift in, we knew we were going to get to the finish line before dark –
There was our Driver of the Jeep standing at the finish line and loudly cheering.
(Just an observation from the Web Contact...as I was sorting Noni's Pictures I noticed that they were having far too much fun visiting & watching the scenery. I'm surprised they EVER finished!! Way to go girls & see you next year)
