Hello – my husband and I wanted to pass along our great thanks to all the volunteers who contributed to such a superb event. We had an excellent day and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
Many thanks!
DW
Congratulations on another very successful event. As usual everything was extremely well organized and run. Thanks for everything!!
Comments: Good afternoon,
On behalf of myself & my wife, I would like to thank all the volunteers for the exemplary job they did in making this event a truly memorable one for both of us.
All the volunteers were kind, courteous and extremely supportive from the moment we checked in on Friday night, until the closing ceremony on Saturday. At every rest stop we found encouragement, fun, well organized groups and energizing snacks and refreshments. The finish line was just about the best thing we had seen in many hours! Another special treat was the wonderful foot massage we received after the walk. The entertainment, organization and management of this event was wonderful. Proving yet again that volunteers make great things happen. The only down side of the walk was the number of vehicles on the logging road, most of which I think were not involved in the walk.
Thanks for a great time.

Jon Bird walker# 1425 who finished in 4:53:48 not too far behind the leader. Nice work Jon!!
Comments: Greetings! I just wanted to express my gratitude and compliments to all those involved in organizing and running the event. Although I am only now able to function, I had a great time. The course was great and the volunteers were worth their weight in gold. They were all so energetic and supportive. More than once did their enthusiasm and kind words keep me going. Also I was very very impressed with the baggage handling. My bags were there waiting for me every time, even at the finish! All in all a job well done, pat yourselves on the back. I will definitely be back next year, and I will bring a team to join me. See you all next year. Thanks Again.
Sincerely Jon Bird
Comments: Hi There,
Just wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone associated with the walk this year. My husband and son participated this year and had a blast again. (Mum and Dane walked last year) We're hoping to be back and walk as a family next year. A big pat on the back for running such a fun event.
Comments: Wow! What an event! Your entire group of volunteers should be extremely proud of themselves for the un believable event that you and your organizers put on. My wife and I are first time entrants and will definitely be back for more!! I have attended many running events in the past and have never found an event so organized with such enthusiastic volunteers and the participants so well taken care of as your event!! You
should all be very proud of yourselves as you all definitely put Lake Cowichan on the world map. I would like to know when the results are going to be posted as my wife and
I are looking at hopefully beating are time next year. Thank you all once again and I look forward to seeing all of the participants, organizers and volunteers next year.

Comments: Many thanks the Great Lake Walk Society and their volunteers for putting on such a great event. Everyone along the way was helpful and enthusiastic. A special thanks to the Red Hat gang, whose cheering and smiles helped us on the way up the "HILL". Oh and thanks for the Mr. Freezy at the last check stop, it was the best I've ever had ! If anyone from Victoria is interested, the Greater Victoria Public Library has ordered the book "Walking Outside the Box". Thanks again people you've done a great job.
I wanted to thank you and all your wonderful volunteers for their kindness and careful thought to detail in the planning and execution of the grand event. It made the arduous journey more pleasant and easier for me and my fellow walkers. This is not meant as a criticism in any way, but the wording in your newsletter is somewhat misleading and you may wish to change it for next year's event. Pack drop off points are described as “and/or" rather than "one of the following" and unfortunately we interpreted this to mean that we could use this service throughout the walk and forward our pack onto the next listed checkout point. It's a small detail but it might be better to avoid confusion. Thank you again for all your enthusiastic support and perhaps we will see you in the future when the memory of our blisters and muscle aches have faded.
(It shouldn't take more than a few days!)
Comments: Hello Great Walk People!
I was in the walk on Sat. Sept. 15th and just wanted to compliment and thank everyone for the fantastic job. The whole event was so well organized and everyone was so friendly and upbeat. It was my first year in the walk and unfortunately, I could not finish. My 3 younger friends/dragonboat teammates all had longer legs than me and as a
result I was walking as fast as I possibly could and still had to run every 15 min. or so catch up! I didn't really get a chance to rest at the rest stops as they would already be there waiting for me. So, I would grab a sandwich, down some Gatorade and head right back out with them. Now, I'm in pretty good shape because of my job and lots of strenous hiking. But, as a result of pushing my 49 yr. old body so hard, it started to react in some pretty scary ways. Along with the normal (?) swelling of hands and feet, my hips and ankles began to ache. Then my left knee and right foot joined in. These two particular aches came from old injuries...one from high school! By the 3rd rest stop I was unable to urinate. Then between the 3rd and 4th rest stop as I was examining my swollen hands, I noticed a strange blue bruise or clot on the inside of my right finger. It was then that I knew I couldn't continue. My friends tried to encourage me to carry on at my own speed and they would wait for me at the end, but I knew I had pushed my body too hard already. Hey, at least I made it halfway and next year I will return wiser and go at my own speed and finish. I won't let it beat me!!!
I think the shuttle driver's name was Ernie. He was a hoot! So cheerful and just a great sense of humour. When I got to the hall I knew I had lots of time until my friends got in so I took advantage of the free foot massage. Oh boy, did that feel good! I later enjoyed a slice of pizza from Papa Luigi's and listened to the female band that was playing. Then I caught the shuttle bus back to Youbou (another nice driver and good looking too!), and drove our vehicle back to the hall. I stood at the finish line and helped cheer people as they came in, which was an experience in itself. My friends amazed me by coming in 45 min. earlier than last year! Well, they did have a 30 min delay last year so I can account for that, but they still shaved 15 min. off their previous time.
Anyway, thanks for a great job and thanks for taking such good care of us. The walkers may be too tired to show their appreciation, but I'm sure they are all just as grateful as I am.
Sincerely,
P.S. (Oh, by the way, the blue mark disappeared within 30 min. of my stopping, but the swelling took a lot longer and I'm struggling to walk today, but that's par for the course.)
Comments - : GLW 2007 - This was another stride in the parade of successes for the Cowichan Lake communities. The event has now become a solid 'must do' for all those who want to challenge themselves, their friends and family and the community. It is a 'keeper' and continues to be very well organized with great volunteers, a truly scenic route and year after year it builds on the commaderie and positive spirits of those participating and assisting it. Thank you for the ensured success of this event. We look
forward to seeing you all next year!

Comments - : Excellent event - well organized - volunteers were the best -Friday's dinner was wonderful.
Comments: Just got back home in Campbell River. Incredible experience. Wonderful people. My daughter and I finished at 10:35. My only complaint was the idiots that raced by us in their 4x4's stirring up dust. Again thank you for allowing us the experience.

Comments: Hello everyone, Thank you for such a nice day on Saturday, you certainly
know how to control the weather. I liked all your little pieces of paper hanging from all sorts of things, telling us how far we had walked, it is always nice to know when the half way is behind you. As usual your volunteers, and the support was marvelous, I promised my old friend Barbara V I would be there before she went of duty at 3pm, time to spare!! I see I was the oldest lady, I feel good about that, we are still out there trying. My best to you for the future walks.
Sincerely
