The Route

Starting Point

Youbou Community Hall

The Great Lake Walk Start time is 5 a.m. from the Youbou Community Hall located at 8550 Hemlock St. in Youbou B.C. For those of you who may need more information on how to find us please feel free to call 250-745-3712.
All walkers will start at the same time and from the same place.
FOR SAFETY REASONS, NO LATE STARTERS PERMITTED.

SIGN IN

Youbou Community Hall will be open for the walkers to sign in from 10:00a.m. - 10:00p.m. on the Friday before the Walk.

  • Walkers SIGN IN and receive walker numbers. One person may sign in for a group. Register your Support Vehicle, or check in 'a walker bag' to be shuttled to Rest Stops 3,5,8 and/or 10 only. See baggage transportation below. Pick up t-shirt and Chamber of Commerce Goodie Bag. Get your Volkssport card stamped. View memorabilia from past walks.
  • NOTE: The Hall will re-open at 3:30a.m. (Sat morning) until start time at 5:00a.m.for warm ups, camaraderie and use of facilities prior to start time. You should be registered prior to 10:00p.m. Friday evening.

BAGGAGE TRANSPORTATION

We will shuttle a 'walker bag' from the starting point to rest stop numbers 3, 5, 8, and 10 only. This 'walker bag' will be brought to the finish line when that particular Rest Stop closes down. 'Walker bag' size restricted to that of a grocery bag. Unfortunately we are unable to transport other personal items to the finish line. We encourage you to leave another bag at the Lake Cowichan Sports Arena the day before the walk labeled with your walker number that you will receive upon signing in at the Youbou Hall on Friday.

PASTA AND SALAD DINNER

Pasta Dinner Friday 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., Friday, at the Youbou Community Hall.
Reservations required (book early the limit is 175 people)

Please indicate preference as to meat or meatless pasta sauce.
Tickets are $8.00.

BREAKFAST

The Youbou OAPO #115 will be hosting a breakfast at the church (just down the hill from the starting point) between 3 and 6 a.m. on Saturday, the day of the Walk. Breakfast will cost $5 and will include scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, orange juice, coffee and tea and will be held for walkers and their families and the volunteers of the Great Lake Walk and members of the public who are early risers. Come on out and help support our local seniors.
